It's a bit intellectually dishonest to pretend the flat tax is the only way to make taxes simpler. You could have a progressive system that eliminates deductions. You could have a consumption tax, there's lots of ways to go.

Besides, there is a reason this video never says just how much a revenue neutral flat tax would be. If you're currently a middle class american, take what you pay in taxes now, and add about 15 percent more of your income. And that's to get us where we're at now. if you wanted to close the deficit, you'd have to extract another trillion dollars out of everyone not currently in the top tax bracket.

Seriously, most of the countries that have a flat tax reside in the former soviet union. Sorry if i don't think Estonia and Ukraine have economic models i want to follow.

This from a Marxist?

Hmmm. sound as though derek doesn't like taxes: "if you wanted to close the deficit, you'd have to extract another trillion dollars out of everyone not currently in the top tax bracket."

Would that mean that everyone would be taxed more? That's not what Obama promised... "not one dime..."

Awwww... no wonder Tim didn't pay his taxes... he clearly was confused by the tax code...
