Every time the camera panned left, I figure the sign language translater just extended the middle finger. Same difference.

Yeah, global warming means it's getting colder and up is down and black is white and you can't read anything into all the snake-oil salesman getting rich off this incredible global game of three card monte!

He literally said global warming doesn't mean it's getting warmer everywhere. Does he understand the phrase? Global: the globe, the planet, earth, you are here! Warming: ice cold, cold, cooler, cool, warm, warmer, hot, hotter, you're on fire!

That's why he also threw in "climate change" a couple of times. Climate change means whatever happens, you fools need to be parted from your money, as the poet once wrote. Well, Mr. President, your fellow Nobel Laureate, the Holy Father of The Church of Global Warming himself, Pope Albert said it: "The science is settled. The debate is over. The earth has a fever."

We can't help it if the inconvenient truth shows that the globe isn't getting warmer or if it is or if it's wetter or drier and we know you're the last people on earth who could ever comprehend that man is really insignificant in terms of the scales of space and time but it is true none-the-less.

But don't be too hard on the professor. We all know how little time, if any, they actually spend in classrooms and lecture halls or reality for that matter.

    Speaking of reality:

"The past year was a small fraction of a degree cooler than 2005, the warmest on record, putting 2009 in a virtual tie with a cluster of other years --1998, 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2007 -- for the second warmest on record. "

mark my words, 2010 is going to be the hottest year ever recorded. Me knowing that isn't some sort of accident. It's not magic.

Now, i'm not a fan of contributing extreme weather to global warming off hand, BUT, the whole problem of global warming is just that. Not the fact that it's getting hotter, but the fact that we'll see crazy things like rain in places that don't get rain, droughts in places that never had droughts, etc. the chaos associated with global warming is what makes it so costly. This conversation is the whole reason scientists like saying climate change rather then global warming. Not because global warming isn't true... obviously it is (see above link) It's because that phrase doesn't really convey the meaning of the havoc that global warming means to our way of life.

"mark my words, 2010 is going to be the hottest year ever recorded..." Cannot wait to check back on derek's crystal-ball prediction later this year.

Same cr*p we heard back in the 1970s telling us there is an ice age coming. Only this time a few have figured out how to pocket billions of $$$, destroy economies, cause people around the world to starve.

Climate is ever changing derek... for the past billion years it has been changing.

yeah, but apparently i can't live my life in blocks of billions of years so i kind of have to worry about now. thanks for the input though

"...i can't live my life in blocks of billions of years so i kind of have to worry about now." Yes... and I trouble living according to some unsubstantiated scare-tactic prediction telling us the Himalayas' ice will melt in 2035.

Derek ask your climate researchers, who keep telling you the earth is getting warmer, why they are not using satellite data for their measurements???

    Maddie - Saukville

Terry, I think it has become clear that they really haven't used any actual data because it simply doesn't back their claim. Climate change and climate shift are pathetic attempts by them to save face because they said, the science is settled, the debate is over, the earth has a fever.

I know it's probably too late for this, but Joyce, if you can prove a majority of scientists predicted global cooling in the '70s, I'll buy you a massage at the spa of your choice.

Here is an intersting paper written by some German physicists, debunking the supposed physics believed to be behind the misnomer (their words) of the green house effect.

I read the first 40 some pages before running out of gas.

The easy response from the AGW religionists will be that these are physicists who are outside of the pertinent area of expertise of climatology.

The problem is that their arguments are incredibly compelling and born out of an analysis of the key aspects of the issue. Namely the transfer of heat via convection, conduction, and friction.

Does it prove that AGW is false? Maybe not. But it should cause thoughtful, truth pursuing scientist to continue to dig deeper into the issue rather than declaring the science settled. Which it clearly is not.
