Corporation contributions are bad in Keith's world, but I guess donations/commercials by Moveon.org or ACORN are perfectly ok. Wasn't President Obama the person who raised more money than any other person in history? Of course he never promised to have a public funded campaign...oh wait never mind.

    TerryN

    What a jackass!

    TerryN

    Keith, that is....

    Sail'nTodd

What did he actually say? I'm sure even Keith Doberman doesn't know.

He has lost it. All the poor ratings, the conservative push, is really getting to this 'ol chap.

    derek

wait until china inc. starts donating money. then you'll see how stupid this all is.

    James T.

Stupid?... like Bill Clinton, Al Gore and bags of Buddhist cash?
    Yeah, ok.

    Joyce

Maybe Olberidiot's Corporation, NBC will see the light and give this guy his pink slip... Good Night indeed!

Who do these idiots think creates the wealth in America. If BHO had his way all Corporations would cease to exist... Hmmmm wonder how many more unemployed BHO will create and AP can "unexpectedly" announce.

As if we'll have a republic and democracy under BHO's plan to have the Unions and government elitists run America.

    DumbA$$es!

    Sheepdog

    woo-hoo!......Goldman Sachs for President!

    U-S-A-U-S-A-U-S-A-U-S-A-U-S-A-U-S-A-U-S-A

Derek. ..."how stupid this all is." China's already invested Billions... Seems to me they already own much of America.

    derek

now they get to own your politicians too.

i'll never understand the idea of corporate personhood. the day that places like goldman sachs and aig can go to jail like a normal person is the day they should have rights like a normal person.

    TerryN

Should corporations also not pay taxes Derek?

    Dan (BipolarNation.com)

Derek - of course a CORPORATION can't go to jail. But people in the corporation can. And people buy the ads.

    LegioNofZioN

its more complex than that Derek and you know it. the only sections of McCain Feingold that were struck down were the parts that contravened the constitution. I would have preferred the whole thing gone, but not all of it was anti-constitutional. I understand being wary of corporations, I work for one of Canada's largest and at times I share some of those concerns. but at the end of the day if I didn't work here i would be swimming in debt and I would be worse off, unless I could get a better job, which with my education in somewhat unlikely. Corporations can suck, but not having corporations sucks even more.

    Joyce

So Derek, you'd rather the Supremes stripped people within a corporation of the First Amendment rights, while allowing every other org and union to maintain theirs?

    www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1574233421

Olbermann is a corporate tool himself. Problem is, as a liberal he's just too dumb to realize it...

    Dana

"...the First Amendment provides that 'Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech'..."

" Corporations can suck, but not having corporations sucks even more."

Corporations are here to buy and sell goods/services. not to participate in political process.

    Joyce

Well, at least you know the main reason corporations exists. "Corporations are here to buy and sell goods/services."

What about unions... 501c3's and Hollywood celebs? OK for them to have a voice, but not businesses? Acceptable to have them contributing and participating in politics? Isn't their involvement more of a control issue, to control "their" people?

    Dan (BipolarNation.com)

"Corporations are here to buy and sell goods/services. not to participate in political process."

Corporations aren't here "to" something. They aren't designed by central planners in Washington to fit a certain need in the market. They're just agreements between free people.

    FREE people.

    Stu

Liberals don't believe in free speech unless it is their speech that isn't being infringed.

"Corporations are here to buy and sell goods/services. not to participate in political process."

And yet you have no problem with unions, Moveon.org, etc etc. Aren't you ever embarrassed by your utter hypocrisy?

    derek

" They're just agreements between free people."

there are a lot of agreements between people that the government doesn't recognize. but that's neither here nor there. a corporation is by definition a legal construct. your "agreement" entails a hell of a lot of legal rights. such as the right for a shareholder to not be personally liable for a company debt. that's fundamentally a legal protection and fundamentally something that can only exist due to government law. so stop with the "free persons" nonsense.

corporations aren't people, we don't let them vote, we don't send them to jail, we don't let them get drafted. given this, i'm supposed to pretend they have the same rights as people? that's ridiculous.

    Dan (BipolarNation.com)

"corporations aren't people, we don't let them vote, we don't send them to jail, we don't let them get drafted. given this, i'm supposed to pretend they have the same rights as people? that's ridiculous."

Liberals don't exactly have a great record on deciding who is and who isn't a person.

If you check the constitution, it says:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

It says Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech. Period. Even if you refuse to accept that corporations are groups of people, your assert doesn't stand up to the simplest reading of the First Amendment.

    derek

the first amendment makes a separate clause for press for a reason. and that reason isn't because it's automatically presumed that non humans get free speech.
