Some of those republican votes were necessities. Cao is from a district that's D+25. Meaning you take the average national share of a democratic candidate and add 25 points to that to get the share in Cao's district.
I think there was some +7's and 8's in addition. So most (actually all) of the GOP yay votes should be expected. That's just politics (although i guess that's what Paul is lamenting). So I don't know if it's healthy to call these guys defectors. But other then that it's hilarious to see you put of a youtube video with Ron paul complaining about indefinite detention and secret trials and then in the very next post complain about closing Gitmo.

I'm not a fan of indefinite detention but but alternatives aren't all viable. Its one of the areas where I won't criticize Obama because anyone in that position has a real hard job to do. Damned either way I keep my nose out of it.

aside from that though, I agree with him 80-90%. If there had to be someone in power with whom I disagree somewhat this guy would be best of the bunch.

Dr. Paul, (yes, a real MD), is so awesome. If the liberal media wouild give him his due, he would have been the Rep. Candidate in 2008.
He is about the only true civil libertarian.
Have you ever heard some of his views on the current state of affairs?, most of which he sees as unconstitutional?

Ah yes, the lib media kept Ron paul out of all those debates. Wait, that was fox news.

And what's that, a liberal site complaining about it? ya don't say.

And i really don't understand this weird ass cognitive dissonance you guys seem to have. You should be working out the kinks in conservative philosophy... but you sort of have to acknowledge those kinks for it to happen.
Instead i see this crap:
this dude Todd makes some retarded ass rant about "libs" focusing on Gitmo then comes to this thread to praise Ron Paul... When this thread features Ron Paul saying he's dismayed that people aren't outraged by indefinite detention. And James is complaining about closing Gitmo, while he puts up this video...
Seriously people... get your heads on straight.

Ron Paul wouldn't have us in very many places, if any, outide of our borders. He tries to be a true civil libertarian.
He wants to get rid of the feds Department of Education, etc.

And yet he debated in South Carolina on Fox News like 4 days later. He was polling low in NH at the time as well as Duncan Hunter. The only case you could have made was why Fred Thompson was invited. I got to watch his Town Hall on the internet anyway and it was far more entertaining
And those broad sweeping strokes you do to conservatives are mildly cute. I could easily play the same game with the major failure of liberal policies right now, but that is just not logical appropriate. I shouldn't really have to explain why, but never know. But as long as you keep painting that false picture using the brush of poor logic, all you are ever going to do is talk in abstract...

Broad strokes my ass. Paul got like 2 percent of the vote for a reason. And it's mostly because no conservative wants to face what he's really for. Because that would require facing what THEY'VE been for for the past 20 years.
Posted by: Derek | July 08, 2009 at 09:25 PM
Plus Fox included Paul in the SC debate after they caught crap for screwing him out of NH.
Bill Maher is about the only media person i can remember that gave Ron Paul a modicum of respect on his show (well, the 2nd time Paul was on... the first time he treated Paul like the rest of the media does)

Your thoughts would be relevant if I had not supported Ron Paul, but that is not the case. I know what he is for, you don't have to tell me. I agree with some of his policies, some I don't. He is not the perfect candidate, but no one is. I could list the reasons why Ron Paul is hard to get going mainstream, but apparently you know already...

'I could list the reasons why Ron Paul is hard to get going mainstream,'
And yet what's great about Ron Paul, M.D., is that he doesn't change his stance for the media, or popularity. He's the real deal.
