Dambisa Moyo grew up in Zambia. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard, an MBA from American University, and a doctorate from Oxford, and has worked for the World Bank and Goldman Sachs.
Oh yes, she's also has a whole hell of a lot more knowledge and experience than Bono, Geldof, the Chocolate Jesus and all the Democrats in congress rolled into one. Check her out on NRO's Uncommon Knowledge.
Then make time to check out her C-SPAN interview.

Derek, let me guess. You know more than this woman too, right?

I know more than YOU. Let's get that straight first.

I don't know if i want to sit through an hour, but yeah i agree that foreign investment works better then aid if that's the case you're trying to make. I'm not Sally Stuthers so I don't see where exactly you think you have me figured out.
You want to start talking about whether developing countries should focus on foreign investment or prop up companies with their own money, THEN we can talk about some real issues.

I say we boot Timmy Geithner out and give this lady his post!

LOL! If so, what a waste! Your arrogance betrays you. As does your Marxist views.
In other words, how can someone so smart believe in such stupidity? Answer, they ain't that smart.
:-)

Booting Paulson's dumbass was good enough.

"In other words, how can someone so smart believe in such stupidity? Answer, they ain't that smart."
You're the one that shilled for Mccain. You probably cheered him on as he saved the bailout.
Watch a few youtube videos now you think you're ready to play on my stage?

Ummm Derek? I think it's you who are playing on my stage.
See what I mean? Your arrogance makes you S-T-U-P-I-D.

"I think it's you who are playing on my stage. "
We all go slumming every now and then.

But back on the real issue. I think "aid or no aid" is very much a ridiculous debate. Foreign aid based on politics, not economics. Welcome to reality. Right now we are using foreign aid as leverage over Honduras. Whether or not that aid helps people is a bit inconsequential to the fact we can buy favors and hold countries hostage with it. And in some cases aid is simply the moral thing to do. HIV/AIDS programs in Africa are morally good.
The real issue is whether or not countries should listen to the IMF and take money from them. Countries are going to start following China and Indonesia as models moreso then they are whatever the World Bank is telling them to do.

"We all go slumming every now and then."
Dude!!!! LMAO!
You are the resident vagrant of the National conversation! A Squatter, bum, a hobo that we keep feeding because we feel sorry for you.
As for the point,
"I think "aid or no aid" is very much a ridiculous debate."
I stopped reading after that. You don't know what you're talking about and therefore are about to divert the conversation to your Marxiat wheel house.

Dayum James no you didn't lmbao! You can't get a cup of coffee for a quarter anywhere I know of. Hey Derek here's a dollar.

"I stopped reading after that."
I'll bet you did. I mean, I skip over the fact that you can do both, invest in africa through entities like the world bank and provide aid at the same time because I presume it's rather obvious, but perhaps I make too many presumptions about the critical thinking skills around here.
The fact is this woman worked for the world bank so I'd imagine she comes under a lot of fire for what she does. Is what she does better than foreign aid? Maybe, maybe not. Can you name any world bank or IMF success stories? So i find the debate about aid to be slightly self serving for her, and not necessarily relevant to what's on the mind of any developing country. Nations need to learn to stand up on their own? That's meaningless drivel. Zimbabwe is trying just that, look how that's turning out for them. Yes, the question of aid is ridiculous. It's not the real issue. The question is always policy.

I find it refreshing to hear someone speak about a complex subject with such clarity (and no teleprompter)!
Posted by: nosredna2 | July 04, 2009 at 03:26 PM
...referring to Dambisa Moyo, that is.
