What Happens to a Hope Deferred?

Images14 This morning, while listening to the Tom Joyner Show (my wife's car still doesn't have AM radio), the discussion at hand was: What will happen to the "black agenda" WHEN Barack Obama is president?

WHEN Obama is president.

Mr. Joyner and company were interviewing a congressmen, who with the help of Star Jones raised a butt-load of money for Senator Obama.

He was smug, they were confident, the mood was jubilant, the agenda would move forward...

I am afraid for them... I am afraid for all Obama supporters. What will they do when their candidate loses to the old-scary-white-haired-man?

What will they say? America is racist? What else can they say? They won’t blame their candidate's inexperience

Who will they blame? The guns and religion crowd? Red State white folk? Even though more Americans of European descent will vote for Obama than any other ethnic group?

What will they do?  Now that's the million dollar question.

Let me answer it for you.

Remember all the liberals who suffered from "post-election syndrome" after the 2000 and 2004 elections? Well America, get ready, because the next syndrome will be global in scale and the seething will be relentless.

"America, the racist!"

Years ago, Langston Hughes captured the mood of the pre-civil rights generation in a single poem: What Happens to a Dream Deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Profound anger over the historical loss of Hope and Change will be worse than any post-election syndrome that you have ever seen…

Prepare yourselves.
