I have the solution to Milwaukee’s self-esteem problem. It’s really quite simple. First of all, the state could have elected a new governor… Oh well. Next, elect a new mayor. Tom Barrett could work, but if he were to remain, he would need to undergo an extreme makeover – an ideological one, not the “home edition.”
New leadership. That’s what I’m talking about. Milwaukee needs it, but I don’t know where it will come from.
The key is to make sure that the new leadership has a vision for the city and state and that their vision involves low taxes and crime prevention. Look at New York City, or better yet, you need look no further than Glendale, Wisconsin. Lower taxes, visionary leadership and a booming economy. How’s that for self-image?
If you don’t buy into the James T. formula for radical-city-self-esteem therapy there is still one other route the city could take…
Get a NFL franchise!
Have you noticed that whenever someone wants to relocate to a “cool” and “hip” city, that city usually is the home of a NFL franchise?
Denver, Charlotte, Seattle…even Green Bay!
Pride (confidence) follows the National Football League. An NFL franchise in your city makes you a Some City!
Check this out: The Milwaukee Bills.
Yes, it sounds radical – or maybe even misguided – but we should steal the Bills from Buffalo. Have you been to Buffalo, New York, lately? They are the one city that doesn’t deserve an NFL team. Maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars are in that category, too. Milwaukee, on the other hand, deserves a team. Milwaukee needs a team. Milwaukee could be the pride of the NFL.
The Milwaukee Bills. What do you think?
Whether it’s a team or a talented leader who cares about the city, Milwaukee deserves better.
